Growing up, Cheyenne, Jnanee and Moonlake struggled with being distracted, careless, forgetful, disorganised and late, which led them to believe they were “stupid”, “dysfunctional” and “flawed”. They never knew that they had Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Studies show that girls and women with ADHD are more likely to be misdiagnosed or undiagnosed, because unlike boys who tend to be hyperactive, their symptoms of inattention are less likely to be recognised. Without access to medication and coping strategies, Cheyenne lost her scholarship and went into severe depression; Jnanee suffered from panic and anxiety attacks; and Moonlake’s marriage started to show cracks.
