We Rescue Children Trafficked Into Forced Labour in Delhi, India




In India, child trafficking has worsened because of the COVID-19 pandemic. With the deaths of breadwinners and loss of income, many families are driven to desperation Traffickers target vulnerable families and offer work to their children, who then become bonded labourers working for a pittance, often in deplorable conditions. Worse, others exploit children orphaned by the pandemic, posing as adoptive parents. Bachpan Bachao Andolan (BBA) is a non-governmental organisation that rescues children from bonded labour and child trafficking. Each operation to rescue child labourers is dangerous and requires undercover work and meticulous planning. #Insight follows BBA on one such raid of a garment factory in East Delhi: 00:00 The local police are activated to assist in the raid. 00:59The team arrives at the garment factory in East Delhi. 01:38 The child workers are found scattered in a few buildings. 01:51 The team searches for the employers of the garment factory. It is an offence to employ a child below age 14 to work but according to India’s 2011 census, 10 million out of India’s 260 million children were found to be child labourers.
