How To Use A Self-swabbing Antigen Rapid Test Kit Correctly

Antigen Rapid Test (ART) kits are widely available in pharmacies. Anyone can buy an ART kit to self-swab and test for the coronavirus. But the kit is the most accurate when tested within day 5-7 of a COVID-19 infection when the viral load is the highest; symptoms only usually show on day 14. When tested outside of the 2-day window, the test kits have a higher chance of false positive and false negative results. Professor Dale Fisher of the Division of Infectious Diseases at National University Hospital explains how a self-swab can be done for the most accurate results. 00:15 How does an ART kit detect the coronavirus? 00:48 How accurate is an antigen rapid test? 01:10 Why is my antigen rapid test inaccurate?
