Julian Assange news is hitting the headlines again as the WikiLeaks founder faces extradition hearings getting underway in London. The US authorities want to see Assange in jail for alleged espionage and conspiring to expose the superpower’s secrets: from US military war crimes, to embarrassing emails from Hilary Clinton’s presidential campaign. If convicted, he could spend up to 175 years behind bars. Julian Assange spent seven years hiding in Ecuador’s London embassy to avoid the threat of extradition to the US, which loomed over him constantly. Tensions mounted until Assange’s asylum was revoked in April, 2019 and he was sent to Belmarsh prison for breaching his bail conditions. All while remaining in the media limelight.
