China's northeast was once hailed by Mao Zedong as the country's eldest son, as it's where industrialisation first began in the country in the 1950s. But today, it's become the country's rust belt. From a rapidly ageing population to a shrinking work force due to falling birth rates, the region can be seen as a microcosm of the challenges facing China.
