Life-threatening cartoons. Echoes of Charlie Hebdo | Short Doc

It's been five years since the Charlie Hebdo cartoonists were gunned down, but this magazine's cartoons are still being used to justify terrorist attacks. The latest ones happened in a church in Nice at the end of October and involved the beheading of a school teacher in Conflans-Saint-Honorine near Paris two weeks before that. It's not just European artists who stand up for the right to free speech, however. Cartoonists in the Midle East do so too. For many of them, their work involves risking their lives on a daily basis. In 2015, our crew visited three Middle Eastern countries, to meet cartoonists and hear about their lives and the boundaries of acceptable satire in contemporary Middle Eastern societies.
