Just as the murder of George Floyd triggered protests on the streets, in a locked-down India, the custodial death of father and son Jayaraj and Bennix in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu shined a spotlight again on this issue. A few hundred miles away, the neighbouring state of Kerala has seen a steady rise in cases of custodial torture and killings, way above states with higher crime rates. We spoke to people who have been victims of this system in this Indian state that ranks highest on the Human Development Index, to see what it takes to get justice against this abuse of power.
