Covid-19 has severely impacted the Indian fashion industry and exposed the extent of its unsustainable practices, especially around fast fashion, waste, and social equity. It also offers an opportunity to reset our current approach to consuming fashion, understanding its impact on climate, and adopting slow fashion models (notably, through reuse and recycling). According to experts, 95% of all textiles produced have the potential to be reused or recycled (Textile Recovery Initiative) and by extending the average life of clothes by just three months of active use per item would lead to a 5-10% reduction in each of the carbon, water, and waste footprints (Waste and Resources Action Program). In this video, we interviewed people from across the fashion spectrum in different cities about their fashion stories, what they think needs to change in the fashion industry, and unpacking what slow fashion means to them.
