A day later on 31st July 2020, Hong Kong Chief Executive, Carrie Lam announced the postponement of the highly anticipated, watershed Legislative Council election by a year amid the resurgence of COVID-19 cases in the territory. Two weeks later, the city police arrested several prominent pro-democracy advocates including media mogul Jimmy Lai and, social activist Agnes Chow and issued arrest warrants against 6 Hong Kong overseas-based democracy activists.
