In late 2019, thousands of Indonesian youths took part in the largest student protests seen in Jakarta for decades. The students used social media to organise the mass gatherings and crowd-funding websites to collect cash to pay for loudspeakers and food. They have also connected with student demonstrators in Hong Kong. Anthropologist Yatun Sastramidjaja talks to #InConversation about the role of digital media in student activism.
