Did you know that the United States accounts for the third most tourists by country to the Philippines? American Citizens are able to visit the country visa-free for up to 30 days. But this could all be changing soon. This all started when a Filipino senator by the name of Leila De Lima, a fierce critic of Filipino President Duterte, was detained in the Philippines in February 2017 over drug-related charges. As a result, the US passed the law to deny all Philippine officials who are proven to be behind the “wrongful imprisonment” of De Lima entry into America. In response, the Duterte administration is now threatening to require all Americans to obtain a visa if they want to enter the Philippines. So the situation is very political. But how do both ordinary Filipinos and American tourists feel about all US citizens having to get a visa to enter the Philippines? We hit the streets of Manila to find out.
